I'm still a young man of 31 years who has a path a little tortuous. Technically, I have no training as a photographer, because I am a doctor of biology. But, like many of my "colleague's galley", after eight years of study and academic degree higher, impossible to get a job. Never mind, it takes more than that to stop me. I fed a passion for photography since my teens. Thanks to a concurrence of circumstances, a little luck and a lot of self-denial, I went on an adventure in the world of photography, only film photography. I created an online store to sell supplies, I opened my laboratory to demanding customers and I also cultivated a work of author, closely related to the naked woman which I share sometimes on Sensual Photography and which is mostly seen on my website www.aurelienleduc.com.
Everything depends on what is called photography. I fiddled my first camera at age 16. But young, I was not very assiduous. I really started to feel the need in 2003 or 2004. It is at this time that I made my first pictures with a model, who at the beginning was dressed. Of course.
The discovery of laboratory Black and White, was a revelation (sic) for me! Since I only see Black and White.
It is a way to escape from the worries of everyday life, as a way finding and meeting beautiful people. The mistress notion is pleasure. My aim is that the models are fun to pose, then to discover that the spectator feels an emotion in reading the image, and I've also had fun to make this image. All in a climate of trust with the person photographed, confidence, without which nothing is possible. Moreover, a large part of my models have also become friends.
Should I specify?
First I love photographing people. A photo unmanned bores me quickly.
Secondly, I like to photograph women.
Thirdly, I like that they are naked.
When I met these three conditions, I am the happiest man in the world.
I try to share an emotion. Whatever it is. When an emotion emerges of a photo is that it is not completely failed ...
I try to share my feelings, my monochrome vision of sensuality, eroticism ...
Um ... big question ... The sensuality for me includes everything that awakens the senses. It can be a meal, music, text, obviously a photo. Moreover it can happen for me to bind all these domains.
In my domain of predilection, nude photography, sensuality is defined as a kind of erotic class, simple, and certainly not vulgar, even for explicit images.
I have infinite admiration for Jean-Loup Sieff. For me, it is he who has the most beautiful naked anyway, sensual nudes as I like.
I also love Willy Ronis. He made naked that I like very much, even though they represent only a very small part of his work.
Unfortunately, Sieff left us far too soon, and Ronis, bowed out after almost a century of life spent photographing. Two extraordinary men. I miss them every day.
I do not like to prepare a session. I love the spontaneous snapshot. We must work with the model to share our emotions, and it depends on the day. We have a life, with its ups and downs, it affects the relationship between the photographer and model. You have to adapt every day.
The only way I sometimes prepare a session is to ask myself, I take a moment with my model to the beginning of the session. We sit together, and I make her listen to the music that provokes me emotions. I simply told her: "You see, it is this style that I want," after she is free.
I only work in film photography, often in medium format. The camera does not matter, what matters is to first be at ease with the equipment that it is as simple to use as possible, and let it knows to be forgotten. It's not the hardware that makes the photo, but the eye behind it.
So to answer the question specifically, I work mostly with my Mamiya 7II, which corresponds perfectly the criteria above.
I also love working with my 4x5 inch rooms, but now it falls into the area of slow photography, in contrast of our society today, I love it.
Not forgetting my beautiful polaroid SX70 ...
Mostly, I work in black and white films. The technique is here, of course, but for me it is like driving a car. It is unconscious. At the beginning, yes, we think all the time, and then things are automatically, without thinking about technique. The final aesthetic counts only. But the technique remains essential if you know how to forget it, because it must not being seen.
My practice of the photograph evolves through my meetings with other photographers. I have the chance to interact with famous photographers such as Didier Carré, for example, or Thierry Magniez. I communicate a lot by email with Sanders McNew, but also with customers lab ; between lovers we have a real working relationship but also a friendship. Working photos of others makes me evolve.
I think my practice evolves with age. My feelings change, and so I did not necessarily want to always shoot the same way.
The internet is both an awesome and dangerous media. Optimist by nature, and probably a little naive, I think only positive side. The Internet has revolutionized the world of photography, since it has become extremely easy to show his images, and to the whole world. Unfortunately we do not see only beautiful things and we need to sort!
Another advantage of the net is that it has brought people together. I physically met people I would never have known without the net. Whether photographers and models.
Internet is a great tool, but we must know how to use and not abuse, not to forget real life.
I expect that this website allows me to learn about other photographers, see beautiful images. The fact that you select the photos is a real advantage because it allows a high overall quality.
I have plenty, but I have to rank them in order of priority ... continue to take photos, exhibit them and offer them for sale etc ... I have other projects combining music, texts and photographs, but it is a long time to implement. I hope to be able to find the time to complete this project.
